DescriptionAmazons India Legal Department is seeking an exceptional legal leader for the newly created position of Director, Litigation to lead our litigation, regulatory engagement, and labor & employment practice across all businesses in India. Reporting to the VP Legal for India, ME, Africa and Turkey and based in New Delhi, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Amazons legal strategy in one of our most dynamic markets.As Director of Litigation, you will lead Amazons litigation practice in India, exercising strategic judgment to balance regulatory engagement with business impact. You will manage all ongoing and upcoming litigation matters including consumer issues, Competition Commission of India (CCI) matters, intellectual property claims, Enforcement Directorate investigations, FDA compliance, international and national arbitration proceedings, legal metrology, law enforcement response requests, and intellectual property and counterfeit enforcement actions. Leading a team of Corporate and Senior Corporate Counsels, you will devise innovative approaches to manage a diverse portfolio of matters while providing strategic guidance across various courts and the Supreme Court of IndiaKey job responsibilitiesLitigation Leadership Lead Amazons litigation strategy across India, managing complex matters in various courts including the Supreme Court of India Provide strategic counsel on litigation posture, balancing regulatory relationships with business objectives Oversee consumer protection matters, CCI proceedings, IPR claims, and regulatory investigations Direct international and national arbitration proceedings with sound judgment and business acumenRegulatory Engagement Engage proactively with the Competition Commission of India, FDI regulators, and law enforcement agencies Serve as the primary liaison between Amazon and key regulatory bodies Respond strategically to Requests for Information from regulators Collaborate closely with the Public Policy team on regulatory mattersLabor & Employment Practice Manage a team of Labor and Employment Senior Corporate Counsels who in turn engage with HR teams across the organization and manage compliance of existing labor regulations and upcoming ones as wellTeam Leadership & Collaboration Build and develop a high-performing legal team Coordinate with Amazons US-based and regional legal teams Establish best practices and drive operational excellence Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvementA day in the lifeYou will work in a fast-paced environment where no two days are alike. Your mornings might involve strategy sessions with business leaders on upcoming regulatory matters, while afternoons could include court appearances or settlement negotiations. You will regularly engage with external counsel at leading law firms, coordinate with Amazons global legal teams, and provide real-time guidance to business stakeholders. You will balance multiple high stakes matters simultaneously, making critical decisions that protect Amazons interests while enabling business growth. As a senior member of the legal leadership team, you will help shape the future of our legal function in India.Basic Qualifications Law degree (LLB) from a leading university or law school Minimum 18 years of legal experience with several years at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a major Indian or multinational corporation Demonstrated experience handling a large volume of complex litigation matters with sound judgment in successfully closing matters, including settlements where appropriate Established relationships with major litigation law firms in India Experience managing international arbitration proceedings Deep experience responding to regulatory investigations and Requests for Information Proven ability to work independently in high-pressure environments with sound judgment in ambiguous situations Proactive, enthusiastic approach with demonstrated ability to be challenged and deliver resultsPreferred Qualifications LLM or additional qualifications in litigation practice such as Advocate-on-Record (AOR) of the Supreme Court of India Experience leading legal teams in fast-paced, technology-driven environments Track record of building strong relationships with regulators and government agencies Experience with e-commerce, technology, or consumer-facing businesses Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with business objectives Strong leadership and team development capabilitiesOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
