Position Summary:

The Dam Design Specialist [National Expert] will be responsible for leading and supporting the planning, structural analysis, and detailed engineering design of dam structures and associated appurtenances. The role requires deep technical expertise in dam design, structural and hydraulic engineering, and prior experience delivering large-scale dam infrastructure projects across various stages of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the design and engineering activities of dams and related structures including spillways, intakes, outlets, galleries, and stilling basins.
• Provide technical expertise in feasibility studies, concept design, detailed engineering, and construction support for dam projects.
• Conduct structural analysis and stability checks using national and international standards.
• Ensure integration of geotechnical, hydrological, and seismic considerations into the dam design.
• Review existing designs and suggest improvements for safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including hydraulic engineers, geologists, and environmental specialists.
• Support the preparation of design reports, drawings, BOQs, specifications, and tender documents.
• Ensure compliance with national and international dam safety guidelines and standards.
• Participate in project review meetings, technical discussions with stakeholders, and provide expert input during construction phases.

Qualifications Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Postgraduate Degree in Structural Engineering or Water Resources Engineering is mandatory.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in planning, design, and detailed engineering of dams and their appurtenances.
• Must have worked on at least 5 large dam projects.
• In-depth knowledge of IS codes, USACE, ICOLD, and other relevant international standards.
• Proficient in design and analysis software such as STAAD Pro, SAP2000, Plaxis, or similar tools.
• Experience in risk assessment, dam safety, and rehabilitation of existing dams will be an added advantage. Read more
