Mercury is a bold future-focused organisation, providing energy and telecommunications to more Kiwi than anyone else, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. At the heart is our purpose which pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our Opportunity:

We have an exciting 6-month fixed-term opportunity in our Consumer Data Team as a Consumer Data Specialist — perfect for someone who thrives on accuracy, enjoys working with systems, and is motivated by solving real-world challenges.

In this role, you'll be responsible for collecting, validating, and tracking energy and telco consumption data to ensure our customers receive accurate and timely billing. You'll carry out quality checks, troubleshoot data issues, and support both internal teams and external consumers to ensure smooth operations.

You'll be joining a team of 13 Specialists who work in our Tauranga and Auckland offices in a flexible work environment. This team is made up of a diverse group of people of all ages and ethnicity, giving rise to a wide range of thought and different perspectives who are passionate about getting the work done. The team aspires to produce solutions to our business challenges through innovative use of data and there is increasing opportunity to be creative in our thinking around how this data is used and managed internally.

Key responsibilities include:

Collect meter consumption data from various sources, such as manual readings, automated meter reading (AMR) systems, smart meters, and third-party vendors.
Process and validate meter data using various software applications and tools, such as Excel, Access, SQL, Oracle and GTV.
Prepare and submit meter consumption data to the billing team, reconciliation teams or external parties according to established deadlines and procedures.
Troubleshoot and problem solve issues related to meter consumption data collection and processing, such as data anomalies, system failures, meter communication errors, and customer complaints.
Identify areas of friction or conflict and initiate process improvements with the end consumer customer in mind.
Collaborate with internal teams to increase the knowledge and understanding of data processing and broaden the use of consumption data for future customer propositions and needs.
Provide excellent customer service and support to internal and external stakeholders, such as timely answering of queries, resolving issues or helpfully redirecting queries appropriately, and escalating problems as needed.

We are looking for:

Demonstrated ability in working with high transactional volumes of data and exception management.
Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills; attention to detail and accuracy.
Customer Service skills and experience is required.
Must have intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills, and exposure to GTV is desirable.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; knowledge of SQL, BI and Oracle preferred.

Mercury offers:

A diverse workplace where your unique abilities and talents will be recognised and valued
The opportunities, career paths and facilities associated with working for one of New Zealand's largest energy providers
Modern offices with collaborative work spaces
Access to our e-bikes and great end of trip facilities
Fresh fruit delivered twice a week

At Mercury, we believe that having a team of individuals with different backgrounds, experience and capability working together makes us stronger and better as an organisation.

We know that some candidates may only apply for a role if they meet all of the criteria. If you have a passion for creating Energy Freedom and want to join our team, we encourage you to apply for any role that matches your skills, capabilities and interests, even if you aren't sure if you meet all of the criteria.

If you require assistance or accessibility support from us during the application and selection process, please reach out to recruitment@mercury.co.nz.
