Job Summary
The Team
At the Public Guardian and Trustee of BC (PGT), we protect the legal, financial, and personal interests of vulnerable British Columbians, including children, adults in need of support, and individuals with unclaimed estates.

The Child and Youth Services (CYS) Legal Assistant Team plays a vital role in safeguarding the legal and financial rights of B.C.’s children and youth. Our six Legal Assistants work closely with Paralegals, Lawyers, and leadership to support estates and civil claims, ensuring no minor loses access to what they are entitled to.

The Role
The position provides administrative support services to in-house counsel in the Child Youth Services Division or the Services to Adults Division. In addition, these positions work closely with other support staff in their Divisions to ensure seamless services to clients. The legal assistant reports to the Administrative Team Leaders in Child Youth Services or in Services to Adults for administrative matters. Work is assigned by their supervisor and/or in-house counsel.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
One year of experience working in a legal office, in a legal support capacity.
Keyboarding speed of 50 words per minute.
Intermediate word processing knowledge (MS Office).
Preference may be given to applicants who have:

Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required education and experience
Completion or partial completion of a recognized legal assistant program
Completion or partial completion of a recognized paralegal program
Completion or partial completion of post graduate studies in legal practice
