Primary objective

Provide strategic Clinical leadership and direction for digital health systems in particular across Core Clinical Systems Renewal Program

delivery streams to organise and coordinate the successful clinical state of readiness for the new Department of Health clinical system

(Acacia).

Context statement

The NT Health Clinical Safety Officer promotes and ensures effective clinical risk management and supports quality improvement activities

through rigorous safety checks. This role provides assurance to Acacia, NT Health's Territory-wide, single, integrated electronic health

record system, which is assessed via a safety and quality management approach. The officer facilitates NT Health's compliance with the

National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and NHS Digital standards by appropriately identifying, considering, and

managing issues, risks, and hazards, and providing evidence to support continuous quality improvements.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Advise on and maintain a NT Health clinical systems risk register to document the active management of clinical risks and continuous

quality improvement (CQI) activities.

2. Provide high level, authoritative clinical advice to the Director of Clinical Information Systems Governance and NT Health leadership,

and lead the identification and development of required clinical risk management strategies and approaches including the safety

assessment for NT Health clinical systems in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

3. Develop and maintain effective governance and reporting systems in all areas of responsibility.

4. Provide specialist advice and collaborate with relevant stakeholder user groups and other NTG agencies to ensure effective and

efficient safety processes that meet clinician and client needs including innovative ideas and solutions to NT Health clinical systems.

5. Follow defined service quality standards, workplace health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Bachelor degree or other postgraduate qualification in a health profession, including eligibility for registration with the relevant board.

2. Demonstrated experience in Clinical Risk Management and Continuous Quality improvement (CQI) through strategically identifying,

considering, and managing issues, risks, and hazards.

3. Demonstrated experience in leading, and maintaining Clinical Safety Risk Registers.

4. High level of communication, collaboration, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain productive

relationships internally and externally.

5. Experience in the management of projects, and techniques associated with the development and implementation of new and ongoing

initiatives.

6. Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, effectively manage competing priorities and remain agile in a fast-paced team

working environment.

Desirable

1. A degree or equivalent qualification in Health Information Management, Health Informatics or similar.

2. Experience with Clinical Safety and CQI within a large Electronic Patient Record implementation

1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.

3. Demonstrated ability to analyse service performance and implement evidence based initiatives to improve client outcomes, program

functions, and organisational efficiency.

4. Demonstrated ability to facilitate a positive work environment, modifying work practices where necessary to meet the needs of

healthcare consumers and staff.

5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships, including with relevant specialists

and executive management, and manages conflict to promote co-operation, teamwork and understanding.

6. Demonstrates and applies highly developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities

that influence health care provision for individuals and groups.

1. Graduate Diploma, or equivalent, beyond entry to practice relevant to specialty area.
