Clinical Pharmacist
Job Description
This role promotes optimal medication use through evidence-based pharmaceutical care, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement initiatives. The Pharmacist also serves as a resource for patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff while supporting the development of pharmacy team members, residents, students, and other learners. The position functions independently within the scope of licensure and organizational policies, with support from Pharmacy Leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to promote safe and effective medication therapy outcomes.
Review, verify, and monitor medication orders while ensuring accurate preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications.
Assess patient-specific clinical information to optimize medication therapy and support positive patient outcomes.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members on medication therapies and best practices.
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient-centered care initiatives.
Support medication-use evaluations, quality improvement programs, and cost-management strategies to enhance safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Provide guidance, oversight, and support to Pharmacy Technicians and other pharmacy personnel.
Serve as a preceptor and mentor for pharmacy students, residents, and newly onboarded team members, as assigned.
Participate in committees, strategic initiatives, departmental projects, and continuing education activities.
Maintain compliance with departmental policies, Board of Pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
Doctorate of Pharmacy Required (PharmD) unless graduated from U.S. School of Pharmacy in or before 2003 OR Foreign Equivalent.
3 years experience required OR PGY-1 Residency.
1 year specialty pharmacy experience required for retail areas.
Maryland Pharmacist License.
Education & Experience - Preferred
Board Certified preferred.

Maintains knowledgeability of the daily operations of UMMS, including the Pharmacy Department, through active engagement and awareness of departmental communications via mailbox, bulletin boards, and/or email.
Maintains knowledgeability of the mission, vision, and values of UMMS.

Compensation
Pay Range: $57.87-$92.40
