Education
Successful completion of a post-secondary program relevant to the position or PSC-approved alternatives OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
Journeyman Carpenter Certificate (Proof of certification must be submitted with your application).

Experience
Experience in the carpentry trade in a maintenance shop environment.
Experience in the maintenance of residential and light industrial buildings.

Knowledge
Knowledge of current methods and practices related to carpentry.
Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.
Abilities
Ability to review and interpret conceptual plans, building/construction plans.

Additional Experience:
Experience in the development and supervision of projects and in working with contractors.
Additional Knowledge:
Knowledge of current codes, statutes, and regulations related to carpentry.

Willingness to take training and update licences and certificates as requested by the employer.
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required.
Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required.
Willingness to work and travel in varied terrain and weather conditions.
Willingness to perform work throughout the entire geographic area of the Cape Breton Field Unit.

Maintenance of a valid class 5 driver’s license recognized by the province of Nova Scotia, or other provincial equivalency.
