Carpenter – Grise Fiord, Nunavut
Penn-co Construction, a leading construction company, is seeking Carpenters to join our team for projects in Nunavut.
Job Duties
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
Measure, cut, and assemble wood, steel, and other framing materials
Construct walls, floors, roofs, stairs, and other structural components
Install sheathing, backing, blocking, and other framing elements
Layout building components according to plans and project requirements
Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely
Ensure framing is plumb, level, square, and in compliance with project specifications
Work collaboratively with supervisors, project managers, and other trades
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Identify and communicate project issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns
Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Mentor apprentices and less experienced workers as required
Requirements
Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent framing experience preferred
3–5 years of relevant framing experience required; candidates with commercial or residential experience are encouraged to apply.
Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be able to pass a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the ability to lead a team
The care and effort required to maintain quality workmanship, minimize deficiencies and maintain Penn-co’s reputation in the industry
Experience working in or with Indigenous communities; cultural awareness and respect are essential
Must be willing and able to travel to remote project locations
Rotational schedule is 35 days on, 14 days off
