This recruitment is to establish a six (6) month eligibility list which will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

CAMPUS MONITORS ARE SCHEDULED 1 - 2 HOURS PER DAY
USUALLY BETWEEN 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under direction from the Principal or designee, maintains campus safety by monitoring and directing students during classroom and non-classroom activities before, during, and after school hours. This position makes a positive contribution to the physical, mental, moral and social development of students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:

High school diploma or recognized equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with school-aged children in an organized group setting

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid First-Aid and CPR certification

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Monitors behavior and activity in areas where students congregate on campus
Scans for wandering students and unidentified visitors and checks them for valid passes
Dismisses students and facilitates clean-up after nutrition and lunch periods
Communicates with school administrators regarding causes and effects of campus and community tension
Resolves minor disputes among students
Monitors student conduct and scans for unsafe conditions during non-classroom activities
Administers basic first aid to students in cases of minor injury
Directs students and others and takes action, as necessary, to prevent injury to persons or damage to property
Monitors entrance/exit gates
Assists with drop-off and pick-up
Performs related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Safety rules and procedures to be observed by students
Standards of courtesy and behavior expected of students
Child social and emotional development and challenges
Outdoor games and activities appropriate for school-age children
ABILITY TO:
Establish positive relations with individual students and groups
Communicate orally and in writing with district staff, parents, and students
Work effectively with District personnel, students, parents, the public, and others
Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies
Operate two-way radio equipment
Receive and apply relevant training
Apply conflict resolution strategies to resolve minor disputes

SUPERVISION AND WORKING CONDITIONS
SUPERVISION:

Supervision is received from a school administrator or designee. No supervision over district employees is exercised.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT:

Works indoors and outdoors on school campus grounds, in classrooms, offices, labs, courtyards and libraries. Constant interaction with students and school staff. Exposure to varied weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to provide effective campus supervision.

Continuous walking and standing for up to two hours.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

To be considered for an employment opportunity with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, it is necessary for you to complete an official District Application and Supplemental Questions. For those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, the examination process will consist of any one or more of the following: Training and Experience Evaluation, Written Test, Performance Test, and/or Structured Interview. EXAMINATION PROTESTS:

Protest of any part of the examination process must be in writing and received in the office of the Director of Classified Personnel no later than five (5) working days from the date you were notified of examination results. All notifications are sent electronically via email. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. We are not responsible for any incoming mail that is lost or misdirected after it has been entrusted to the US Postal Service.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY LIST:

This examination process shall be open to all qualified applicants and shall result in one integrated eligibility list. All eligibility lists shall be established in accordance with Personnel Commission rules and shall be established for a period one (1) year, unless otherwise noted, or until there are fewer than three (3) ranks of eligible candidates who are available. Candidates are placed on the eligibility list in rank order according to their final examination score. Final examination scores will not change, but ranking may change as other candidates are added or removed from the list.

ADVANCED STEP PLACEMENT:

Generally, new employees start at the first step on the appointed salary schedule. When filling a permanent vacancy, a new employee may request a higher salary placement based on having training and experience that greatly exceeds the minimum qualifications. An employee may submit a formal request for advanced step consideration on or after the first day of employment. Education transcripts, training certificates, and additional references may be requested for verification purposes.
