You will work in a dynamic environment and play a key role in delivering transformational change for Immigration New Zealand within the Ministry of Business Innovation Employment (MBIE).
You will be part of a key team that is responsible for collectively identifying, analysing, targeting and managing risks for the Immigration System.
You will develop business risk rules for the visa processing system and border operations.
You will evaluate the effectiveness and performance of business rules using rules engine tools, BI reporting and risk data.
You will collate business rules information for INZ stakeholders.
You will provide administrative support for rule systems and records.
Permanent full-time opportunity - Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.
Salary range: $75,114 - $88,266 + KiwiSaver + Wellness benefits
Tenei turanga - About the Role:
The Business Rules Author supports the Our Future Services programme, which will deliver a more cost-effective immigration system that is more productive, more effective at managing immigration risk and provide a better experience for our customers and staff.
The programme will be delivered through multiple workstreams working in parallel, with each workstream implementing key initiatives with set milestone dates.
You will be part of the Joint Targeting Analytics (JTA) team in the Immigration Risk and Border (IRB) Branch within Immigration New Zealand (INZ). You will report to the Risk Rules Manager within JTA.
You will be responsible for maintaining business rules to support the visa risk targeting system which the JTA team administers. This role would suit a candidate wanting to begin a career in business rules management at the intersection of ICT and operations. The Business Rules Author will receive on-the-job training to develop and test business rules. The role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a fast-paced and diverse business in a positive and rewarding team environment.

Skills and Experience Required
Ability to translate or learn business rule requirements to produce implementable rules (logic statements) within a business rules engine.
A good understanding of, or ability to learn, syntax, vocabulary and logic in a rules engine or similar tool.
Experience working with data.
Experience developing and testing business rules using rules engine software preferred.
Ability to develop the governance and rule management processes and procedures for use by analysts to manage rules.
Ability to work independently, a can-do attitude, and can quickly assimilate new information or areas of work.
Communicates effectively at all levels to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A tertiary qualification or extensive, comparable relevant experience in data analytics or query tools preferred.
You must be a New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident visa holder.
