Automotive Designer
Job Description
Job Summary: Support the conceptualization and development of automotive designs for electric vehicle exteriors, interiors, and other vehicle components. Work alongside the design and engineering teams to translate ideas into sketches, digital models, and physical prototypes — contributing to a design language that is functional, distinctive, and production-aware.
Key Responsibilities:
● Conceptualize and develop design proposals for vehicle exteriors, interiors, and components.
● Create sketches, renderings, and 3D models using industry-standard design software.
● Develop and refine physical models including clay modelling, prototype mock-ups, and surface
studies.
● Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams to ensure design feasibility and
brand consistency.
● Research market trends, materials, and emerging technologies to inform design decisions.
● Present design concepts and iterations to internal stakeholders clearly and confidently.
● Ensure designs comply with safety, regulatory, and manufacturing standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
● Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automotive Design, Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or
Mechanical Engineering.
● Zero or 1+ years of experience in automotive or product design, with a portfolio showcasing
concept development.
● Proficiency in design software — AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Alias, CATIA, Blender, or
equivalent.
● Strong sketching and visualization skills with the ability to communicate ideas quickly and clearly.
● Understanding of vehicle ergonomics, aerodynamics, and manufacturing processes.
● Knowledge of materials, finishes, and production techniques in the automotive industry.
● Strong communication, teamwork, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Previous internship, freelance work, or academic project in automotive or product design.
● Experience creating concept sketches, mood boards, and exterior/interior design proposals.
● Portfolio including vehicle redesigns, surface studies, or conceptual form explorations.
● Hands-on exposure to clay modelling or physical form development is a strong plus.
● Familiarity with EV or AV design considerations and sustainable materials.
● Experience with VR/AR tools for design visualization.
Why Join Us:
● Work on cutting-edge automotive design for a real EV program.
● Creative freedom across the full design process — sketch to prototype.
● Collaborate directly with engineering in a fast-moving, design-forward environment.
● Build a portfolio on work that goes into an actual vehicle.
