ASSISTANT ATHLETIC COORDINATOR

DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of the Athletic Coordinator coordinates and schedules the use of the athletic facilities. This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of events and local league activity.
Instructions to the employee are generally specific: however, there are times the employee must consider, and may be directed by Supervisor to consider different courses of action to complete the tasks.
BENEFITS:
This is a full-time position with an hourly rate of $21.47 per hour. The City currently provides the following for full-time employees: 100% City paid individual medical, dental & vision insurance benefits. EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
· The employee will work both indoors and outdoors and maybe exposed to extreme weather conditions.
· The employee works mainly at the recreation center and H.V. Griffin Parks; however, some functions are conducted at the other facilities throughout the city.
· The employee will operate computers, telephones, copy machines, calculators and other modern office equipment.
· The employee may have occupational exposure to blood pathogens.
· The employee will drive light duty vehicles for hauling related equipment to and from locations.
· The employee will use custodial equipment (broom, mop, etc.) as needed.
· May use Scoreboard, scorebook, computer equipment, athletic equipment and two-way radios.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Requires light physical effort working almost exclusively with lightweight materials (up to 25 pounds).
· Physical activities include, but not limited to walking, talking, stooping, kneeling, light lifting, bending, handling, grasping, reaching, typing and gripping.
· Also includes the necessity to communicate by talking, hearing/listening.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus, for operation of machines and equipment, to determine accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observation of general surroundings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Responsible for organization, operations, procedure functions, and implementation of programs and events.
2. Assist in development and make recommendations of departmental fee structures as it relates to the athletics office.
3. Assist in the assignment and training of recreation program part-time and seasonal employees as it relates to athletics programs.
4. Develop and maintain a scheduling system for all athletic facilities in the park system.
5. Coordinate the use of athletic facilities by local leagues and city citizens.
6. Provide a daily athletic schedule with the general park schedules so as to create a user-friendly park environment.
7. Assist in the planning, organizing, and scheduling of camps, programs, special events, school events, and other events as they relate to the park system.
8. Coordinate programs with the Shelbyville Recreation Center staff and facility so as to maximize the use of such facilities.
9. Responsible for the certification of all youth league coaches using the town facilities through coaching clinics and backgrounds research.
10. Receipt all documents from local leagues and event contacts.
11. Represent the Parks Department in the absence of the Athletic Coordinator.
12. Assist in the development of the athletics and events office.
13. Attend a variety of meetings relative to the programs and staff in the park system.
14. Attend monthly Parks/Recreation Department meeting.
15. Assist and maintain a variety of records for the athletics department.
16. Assist in the creation and release of departmental brochures, articles, reports, and other media related materials.
17. Assist in the development of new programs and tournaments that will enhance the Recreation offered by the City of Shelbyville.
18. Develop the communication of daily and upcoming events to fellow park employees, other town departments, and the community.
19. Lead meetings and make presentations to groups as it relates to the Parks department when necessary.
20. Any other tasks as may be required to accomplish the essential functions of the position as set out herein.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide coverage in absence of other personnel.
Promote teamwork environment. Assist co-workers when necessary.
Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of machines, work area, and facility.
Report incidents or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of recreation, scheduling, facility use, and the principles of management.
Knowledge of recreation trends and their effect on Bedford County citizens.
Ability to coordinate efforts of volunteers, local organizations, and park users in the best interest of the town.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession.
Ability to assist in the study of operations and policies for the department.
Ability to supervise and schedule parks personnel and volunteers during park events.
Ability to use computers and software as it relates to the athletic office.
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or related field from an accredited college or university or a combination of three years experience in recreational programming or athletics with a high school diploma.
Valid Tennessee driver’s license.
Pass a background check, physical, and drug screen.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment is generally agreeable with working conditions but may be slightly dirty or involve exposure to some other slightly disagreeable element. Work environment involves minimal confinement with no protective equipment required.
Generally, physical and working conditions are such that minor cuts, abrasions, bruises, or burns may be encountered, despite provision of safety measures and health precautions (generally no lost time results).
