What you do
Due to growth, Generate is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Auckland, reporting to our Financial Controller. This is a broad role with the opportunity to gain further experience across all facets of the finance function and develop your professional skills. This role is key to ensuring we have timely, accurate and insightful financial information for decision making, aiding and supporting our Financial Controller.
Key Accountabilities and Expected Results
Financial Reporting Analysis
Assist in preparing monthly single entity and consolidated management accounts, including Net Tangible Assets (NTA) report.
Assist in the preparation of single entity and consolidated monthly cash summaries.
Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements in collaboration with required parties for both the management company and the schemes, including assisting the external audit process with EY and Grant Thornton.
Support budget preparation and financial forecasting.
Assist in preparing financial reports and documentation for external stakeholders, including banks and regulatory bodies.
Assist in the preparation of annual and interim dividend distribution.
Ad-hoc financial modeling to provide analytical support to senior management, as and when required.
Financial Operations Compliance
Oversee monthly creditor and expense runs, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Manage bank account reconciliations and ensure financial compliance.
Assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end reconciliation.
Assist in posting journal entries and ensure proper documentation.
Assist in overseeing scheme financials in collaboration with Apex, including monthly and annual reports.
Assist in the preparation of all company tax matters, including GST, FBT, RWT, and NRWT and income tax calculation and returns.
Ensure accurate monthly invoicing in partnership with Apex.
Contribute to payroll management.
Provide support to other internal departments with finance-related queries.
Assist in RD grant claims calculation and documentation.
Assist in developing and implementing risk management strategies to mitigate financial risks and ensure stability.
Maintain proper filing of financial documents for compliance and audit readiness.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, keeping senior management informed of regulatory changes and implications.
Continuous Improvement
Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes and systems.
Identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost-saving measures.
Identify and deliver on opportunities to share your functional knowledge with the wider Generate team to encourage a one team mindset and a culture of cross-functional understanding.
What you will bring:
Qualifications (or equivalent level of learning)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CA preferred or working towards.
Experience
1-3 years’ experience in financial management and accounting, or audit.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practices.
Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, or audit.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
