AI-Assisted Software Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for someone who builds and maintains software using AI coding tools, specifically Claude Code (Anthropic's CLI). This is not a traditional software engineering role. You will not be writing code by hand. You will be directing AI to write, fix, and maintain code across large enterprise applications while ensuring nothing breaks.
This role requires strong systems thinking, architectural awareness, and the ability to set up guardrails that prevent AI from causing unintended damage in a large codebase. If you've built real applications using Claude Code and understand concepts like AI drift, context engineering, and behavioral hooks, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
- Fix bugs and implement features in a large field service management platform (Laravel/PHP, 1,400+ files) using Claude Code
- Use and maintain an AI development system including CLAUDE.md files, hookify rules, and detailed codebase audit documents that prevent AI drift
- Read and understand existing code to identify dependencies and cascading impacts before making changes
- Direct Claude Code to make precise, safe changes — one file at a time — while verifying nothing else breaks
- Maintain codebase documentation that gives AI the context it needs to work safely
- Work across backend (PHP/Laravel), frontend (jQuery/Blade), database (MySQL), and API layers
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Hands-on experience building or maintaining real applications using Claude Code or similar AI coding tools
- Ability to read and understand code in PHP, JavaScript, and SQL (you do NOT need to write it from scratch)
- Understanding of software architecture concepts: databases, APIs, authentication, middleware, MVC patterns, multi-tenancy
- Strong attention to detail — you catch when AI output is wrong, incomplete, or will cause side effects
- Experience setting up AI context systems (CLAUDE.md, system prompts, behavioral rules, or similar guardrails)
- Ability to think about what will break before making a change, not after
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with Laravel, Eloquent ORM, or PHP MVC frameworks
- Familiarity with MySQL database schemas and query patterns
- Experience with jQuery, DataTables, AJAX-heavy frontends
- Experience with the Claude Code plugin ecosystem (superpowers, hookify, SDD)
- Has built at least one non-trivial application end-to-end using AI coding tools
Nice to Have:
- Experience with REST API versioning and OAuth2
- Familiarity with AWS S3, Firebase, Pusher, or similar integrations
- Git proficiency (branching, PRs, conflict resolution)
What We're NOT Looking For
- Someone who thinks "just ask the AI to fix it" is a strategy
- A traditional senior developer who treats AI as autocomplete
- Someone who ships fast without verifying what they shipped
- Someone who can't explain what depends on what in a large application
Pay: From $1,000.00 per week
