Warehouse Manager – Building Materials
Key Job Duties & Responsibilities
1. Inventory Management
Oversee receipt, storage, and shipping orders for framing hardware products
Maintain accurate inventory levels and cycle counts
Manage damaged, obsolete, or slow-moving inventory
Coordinate stock rotation to minimize warping, weather damage, and spoilage
Ensure proper labeling, barcoding, and bin locations
2. Yard & Warehouse Operations
Manage daily warehouse workflow
Organize material layout for efficient picking and loading
Oversee forklift, truck operations.
Ensure materials are staged accurately for deliveries and will-call pickups
Maintain clean, safe, and weather-protected storage areas
3. Safety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA and BFS safety standards
Conduct daily safety inspections of forklifts, racking, and equipment
Train employees on proper material handling and lifting techniques
Investigate and report accidents or near misses
Ensure PPE usage and compliance
4. Team Leadership & Scheduling
Supervise warehouse associates, yard workers, and drivers
Schedule staffing to meet delivery and order volume demands
Train new hires on product handling, safety, and procedures
Set performance expectations and conduct evaluations
Foster accountability, teamwork, and productivity
5. Shipping, Receiving & Logistics
Coordinate inbound shipments from suppliers and mills
Verify deliveries for accuracy and damage
Ensure timely loading of customer and jobsite deliveries
Communicate with sales, dispatch, and purchasing teams
Resolve delivery discrepancies and shortages
6. Equipment & Facility Management
Oversee maintenance of forklifts, trucks, racking, and yard equipment
Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance schedules
Ensure compliance with weight limits and storage capacities
Maintain yard signage, traffic flow, and loading zones
7. Customer & Sales Support
Support contractors with accurate and timely material loading
Resolve customer complaints related to material condition or shortages
Coordinate special handling requests for large or custom orders
Partner with sales team to meet customer expectations
8. Cost Control & Performance Metrics
Control labor and overtime costs
Reduce material loss, breakage, and shrinkage
Track KPIs such as order accuracy, on-time delivery, and inventory turns
Identify process improvements to increase efficiency
9. Systems & Reporting
Use inventory and warehouse management systems (WMS/ERP)
Prepare reports on inventory levels, damages, and productivity
Communicate operational issues to management
Preferred Skills & Experience (Typical)
3–5+ years in building materials or lumber yard operations
Forklift and heavy equipment experience
Knowledge of construction materials and jobsite requirements
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
