Full job description
Play a key role in supporting the Australian economy.
Discounted food, travel, entertainment, gym membership, staff parking and, + more.
Join a values-driven team that delivers meaningful work, every single day.
Company

For 81 years, we've achieved success through our ability to innovate, placing a clear emphasis on how we best serve our customers’ needs. As demand continues to grow, we have expanded rapidly, now delivering a superior range of dry goods, frozen and chilled products, fresh seafood and meat, confectionery, paper products, and cleaning solutions.

In recent years, we’ve seen significant growth and invested in our systems and processes, building a close partnership with Woolworths Group that has continued to deliver high-quality service for our customers and suppliers.

In 2024, Woolworths moved to a 100% interest in the PFD business, bringing PFD exciting opportunities as a strategic part of the Group. Sharing expertise across both teams will ensure our continued success and drive further growth and unlock our collective potential.

About this Position

We’re on the lookout for a hands-on, service-focused Transport Manager to lead our transport operations and a team of 70+ dedicated drivers at our Knoxfield Distribution Centre. This is not your average desk-bound role - it’s an opportunity to lead from the front, build relationships, and make a real impact on the daily lives of our customers and drivers.

If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy building strong, respectful working relationships, and want to be part of a supportive, high-performing team - this could be the next big step in your transport career.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Team Management: Oversee and support 70 drivers and a scheduling team across a 7-day transport operation.
Service Excellence: Collaborate closely with Customer Service and Warehouse teams to ensure delivery standards, driver support, and timely execution.
Compliance Safety: Own all aspects of Chain of Responsibility (COR), driver hours, food safety regulations, vehicle servicing, driver audits, and WorkSafe audits.
Operational Oversight: Lead a team of AM/PM supervisors to ensure efficient scheduling, routing, and execution of multi-drop deliveries across the network.
Problem Solving Urgency: Step in and step up when needed - if a driver calls in sick or a truck breaks down, you're the one keeping the show on the road.
Relationship Building: Build trust with your driver team and other internal departments - we value empathy, communication, and respect.
Continuous Improvement: Be part of exciting change - we’re working on smarter routing, reducing at-fault incidents, improving fleet longevity, and leveraging technology for better outcomes.

What Success Looks Like (6–12 months)

Strong safety and compliance culture embedded across the transport department.
Drivers feel supported and respected.
Minimal service failures - just seamless delivery experiences.
Improved scheduling and routing efficiencies.
Operational collaboration is humming across the site.
Customers are happy, our fleet is running safely, and your team feels proud to be here.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

Proven experience managing large-scale transport operations, ideally with multi-drop deliveries and fleet servicing.
Sound knowledge of COR, OHS, HACCP, and safe cold chain logistics.
Experience leading teams in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
The ability to manage competing priorities, think on your feet, and make confident decisions
Flexible, proactive, and comfortable rolling up your sleeves - you're as comfortable in the truck yard as you are in a meeting
A genuine people leader who listens, communicates, and can confidently have the tough conversations when needed.
A commitment to doing the right thing - for your team, our customers, and the business.

What PFD is Offering the Successful Candidate

We are offering competitive remuneration, superannuation and other staff benefits (such as discounts on staff purchases, discounted accommodation, health insurance and banking).

We’re not just about moving stock - we’re about moving businesses forward. With 1300 customers relying on us daily, this role is at the heart of our success. You'll work with a passionate team that gets things done, celebrates milestones, and supports one another like family. From ad hoc BBQs to daily driver updates and birthday shoutouts, culture is a big deal here.

Important Details

Location: Based on-site in Knoxfield - local candidates or those living nearby strongly preferred
Hours: Flexibility is essential - operations run 4am-7pm, with the occasional 10am start
You’ll partner with a Sunday-Thursday Scheduler and weekend Supervisors to ensure 7-day transport coverage (you won’t need to be onsite weekends, unless it’s urgent).
Regular comms, performance conversations, and hands-on leadership are part of your toolkit.
Cold chain/temperature-controlled delivery experience is highly regarded.
