Summit Micro School is a small, independent school offering personalized, project-based education from Kindergarten through Grade 8. We are a neurodiversity-affirming school, recognizing neurodivergence as a natural and valuable form of human diversity. This understanding shapes how we design curriculum, structure classrooms, and build relationships.

We are seeking a JK–Grade 1 teacher to lead a small class within our Reggio Emilia–inspired program. Our environment is inquiry-driven, emergent, and grounded in careful observation of children’s thinking. Academic development, regulation, and emotional safety are viewed as deeply interconnected.

This role is ideal for an educator who sees teaching as responsive design — not delivery — and who is energized by building environments that honour autonomy, curiosity, and diverse developmental pathways.

Responsibilities

Design and facilitate emergent, inquiry-based learning grounded in Reggio principles
Support early literacy, numeracy, and executive functioning through personalized instruction
Create classroom environments that support regulation, belonging, and engagement
Integrate social-emotional development into daily routines and learning experiences
Apply a regulation-supportive, polyvagal-informed lens to understand behaviour and co-regulation
Use pedagogical documentation to guide curriculum decisions and communicate growth with families
Facilitate outdoor exploration and free play
Collaborate closely with colleagues in reflective planning and problem-solving
Skills & Qualifications

Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) status (or in progress) or equivalent (Bachelor's Degree in Education from a recognized post-secondary institution)
First Aid Certification
Strong understanding of Reggio Emilia philosophy and emergent curriculum
Demonstrated experience in neurodiversity-affirming practice, or a clear and meaningful connection to neurodivergence
Ability to design curriculum from observation, developmental knowledge, and student interest
Understanding of regulation, co-regulation, and relationship-based classroom practice
Comfort supporting diverse communication styles, sensory profiles, and learning differences
Strong documentation, reflection, and professional follow-through
Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback

It is less suited to educators who prefer scripted programs, theme-based units, or highly prescriptive curriculum models.
