Term: May 5 to August 22, 2026 (anticipated)

Job Type: Seasonal, full time (35 hours weekly)

Location: Art Gallery of St. Albert, St. Albert, AB

Workdays: 5 days a week, Tuesday to Saturday 9:15 am – 5:15 pm, includes some evenings, weekends and holidays

The Art Gallery of St. Albert, part of the Arts and Heritage Foundation of St. Albert, has an exciting opportunity available for an enthusiastic, creative and organized individual.
The Summer Gallery Program Assistant supports artistic achievement and visual culture in St. Albert and area by providing support for gallery events, programs and activities. Supports the mission of the Arts and Heritage Foundation – creating inclusive and exceptional arts and heritage experiences for our community.

Duties include:
Support the Program Manager and Visual Arts Programmer in the planning and preparation of child, youth, adult and senior art community programs, school programs and special events.
Present and teach child and youth visual art programs, in the Gallery, St. Albert Place Visual Art Studios and through outreach.
Assist in the planning and implementation of special events such as St. Albert International Children’s Festival of the Arts, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Father’s Day, Canada Day, and Alberta Culture Days program.
Assist with gallery programming and working as a team member in preparing materials, working with volunteers and leading classes.
Organizing and identifying program and materials needs and maintaining digital records of community programs and projects.
Assisting with exhibition installation and strike.
Provide administrative and clerical support to the Gallery and staff including supervision of front desk, main gallery space and Gallery Shop.
Providing retail client services including customer service and welcoming visitors to the gallery, answering the main telephone line, providing interpretive information, registering the public for programs and selling merchandise from the Gallery Shop.
Writing reports, collating evaluations and statistics, reviewing marketing and communications materials and project research to ensure excellence in programming.
Attend to cleanliness of Gallery and exhibit space as required
Ideal candidate profile:
Interest, experience or education in Visual Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, Visual Arts Education or Arts and Cultural Management.
Experience working with the public in group settings and leading art activities.
Experience with Indigenous programming for youth and families.
Familiarity with a wide range of artistic media.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Collaborative skills to work in a team environment.
Creativity and a passion for art galleries and museums.
Past work or volunteer experience in an art gallery
Flexibility and enthusiasm to learn.
Current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate beneficial
Language skills in French, Cree and/ or Michif are assets
This is a grant-funded position with Canada Summer Jobs, anticipated to last 16 weeks (pending grant funding approval). Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and are legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
