KSB has nearly 180 years of service whose mission is to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, Kindergarten to age 21. KSB prides itself on helping all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired to develop their talents, their skills and attitudes to become confident, competent and independent adults.

Currently KSB has an opening in the Residential Section for a Student Development Assistant. As a Student Development Assistant, you will provide coordination and supervision of student development associates, assistants, and other assigned staff, as well as provide supervision and instruction to students at the Kentucky School for the Blind. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office and Google Office apps is preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide supervision and instruction to students. Provide homework assistance and tutoring. Teaching literacy and independent living skills. Maintain discipline.
Enforce code of conduct and building rules/policies. Conduct and document all safety drills. Create home environment for students.
Provide supervision and support to staff. Conduct spot checks and observations. Monitor and maintain documentation. Timesheets and leave requests and schedules.
Conduct staff meetings. Attend leadership meetings and workshops.
Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is for 3rd shift, 11:30 pm - 7:30 am. Shift differential is paid for second and third shift hours. Second shift differential is 10% per hour. Third shift differential is 15% per hour.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in student development, education, deaf education, counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience working with individuals in a student development or education program.


Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE


Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience working with individuals in a student development program or an educational program will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office or instructional setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
