SEND Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Location: Erdington, Birmingham
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
SEND Teaching Assistant – SEMH
SENDSTAFF is currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist school based in Erdington.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people who require additional support to achieve their full potential.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
Help manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.
Work alongside teachers and other professionals to deliver engaging learning activities.
Encourage emotional regulation, independence and confidence.
Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has:
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
A calm, patient and resilient approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
DBS on the update service
Desirable:
Team Teach or other positive behaviour management training.
Experience within a specialist school, PRU or alternative provision.
Relevant Teaching Assistant or childcare qualifications.
