The VMware Information Experience (IX) team is seeking an experienced technical writer to support the Modern Applications Platform Business Unit. You will develop and deliver customer-focused content for VMware products including VMware Application Catalog and other cloud-based solutions.
For this position, you should demonstrate strong technical skills, excellent communication skills, flexibility, and adaptability. As part of our highly collaborative team of technical writers, you will work with software developers, product managers, and engineering stakeholders to create content that helps our customers use our products to achieve their goals. - Work independently to create new content and revise existing technical content in a fast-paced, agile environment.

- Work with peer reviewers, incorporating editorial feedback to ensure that VMware style and standards are appropriately observed in technical content and media.
- Research writing assignments using a variety of sources including trying out the feature, reviewing issues, code, and commit messages, and interviewing subject matter experts.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other writers to create impactful content.
- Ensure compliance with documentation styles and standards.
- Write and publish world-class technical documentation using Markdown and Git, DITA XML.
- Participate in department-wide initiatives to improve the customer experience.

Success in the Role:
What are the performance outcomes over the first three months you start work?
- Complete the onboarding tasks and tools training for producing VMware documentation.
- Gain proficiency with the authoring tools and team processes.
- Become familiar with the available documentation for the assigned product areas.
- Learn about the product features and customer use cases. Obtain information through research, interviews, and experimentation.
- Install and use early builds of products and report issues.
- Collaborate with your product team and writing team for guidance to begin developing a strategy for products and services related to VMware Application Catalog.
What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
- Achieve proficiency with the authoring tools including Markdown, Git, DITA XML, and topic-based writing.
- Develop a solid working relationship with your engineering and product management teams.
- Identify and understand customer needs and to envisage how customers would use the product.
- Work with peer reviewers, incorporating editorial feedback to ensure VMware style and standards are appropriately observed in technical content and media.
- Suggest improvements to existing content and processes.
- Work on department-wide initiatives to improve processes and customer experience.
- Manage complex documentation projects and balance multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Deliver documentation for the assigned product areas on time to quality.
