ABOUT SEEDLING FOUNDATION

Seedling Foundation is an NGO working with Children in Conflict with Law (CCL) / Juvenile Children at the Dongri Observation Home in Mumbai. Currently, the work is primarily with the boys at the Observation Home. Seedling Foundation was founded in November 2026, and is a start-up NGO.

Seedling Foundation works directly with the children at the Observation Home with an aim of rehabilitation of children and strengthening the system of the Observation Home. The focus is on creating a positive environment, engaging children in constructive ways with a focus on behaviour change and inner transformation, and also working with the staff to create a shift in attitude and skill building.

Approach

At Seedling Foundation, our focus is to bring about holistic and lasting change within the Dongri Observation Home, positively impacting the lives of Children in Conflict with Law (CCL), the staff who work with them, and the institutional system as a whole.

We believe that true transformation requires more than surface-level solutions. Our approach is rooted in addressing the deeper needs of individuals and systems through:

Inner transformation: Facilitating personal growth, emotional healing, and the cultivation of compassion and consciousness among children.

Mental health support: Promoting emotional well-being and psychological resilience through structured support and sensitivity.

Mindset shift: Working with both children and staff to cultivate healthier, more empathetic perspectives.

Environmental change: Creating a more positive, nurturing, and structured space within the Observation Home.

Value Education, Socio-Emotional Learning and Educational Exposure: Designing programs that emphasize values and manners, emotional awareness, and broad knowledge and exposure based on curiosity rather than textbook style teaching.

Identifying and addressing systemic gaps: Observing and analyzing the system to recognize what is missing—and actively working to bridge those gaps.

Importantly, our work does not involve direct engagement with the legal aspects of the children’s cases. Instead, we focus on complementing the legal process through social, emotional, and structural support.

Key Areas of Work

Work with Children

Meaningful engagement for children: Organizing regular educational and extracurricular activities that promote learning, creativity, and emotional expression.
Parents & Family Support: Engaging parents and guardians through guided conversations and awareness-building efforts to strengthen the child’s environment.

Work with Staff

Staff development: Offering training, workshops, and dialogue sessions to promote mindset shifts and equip staff with tools for more effective engagement.

Systemic Level Work

System strengthening: Collaborating with the Home to streamline internal processes and improve efficiency and outcomes.
Technological upgradation: Supporting the introduction of relevant digital tools to modernize operations within the Home.
Data-driven, research-based work: Using data collection, documentation, and analysis to inform programs and ensure accountability and continuous learning.

Through this multi-pronged, empathetic, and grounded approach, Seedling Foundation envisions an ecosystem where every child has the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive, and where every stakeholder is empowered to be part of that change.
