Mo te tunga About the role

As a Social Worker specialising in Disability and Older Persons, your responsibility is to provide outstanding care and support to older individuals and tangata whaikaha Maori/disabled people, along with their whanau, within a social model of practice.

You will serve communities across the Auckland and Waikato regions. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, giving you the option to work from home while also spending time on-site at Spring Hill Corrections Facility, Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility, and Mt Eden Corrections Facility. We will also provide quarterly paid travel to our National Office in Wellington, ensuring you stay connected with your kaimahi and the wider Pae Ora team. We'll work with you to create a schedule that supports your wellbeing and meets operational needs.

Your duties encompass collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, conducting assessments, delivering interventions and evaluations, and making appropriate referrals to other agencies. Your engagement will extend to tangata whaikaha Maori/disabled people, older persons, their whanau, and key agencies to access support and specialist services during their time in prison and upon reintegrating into the community. You will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and evaluating Matauranga Maori practices aligned with Hokai Rangi and progressing our Disability Action Plan 2026 - 2027 Department of Corrections.

In this role, we are seeking applicants who can demonstrate a strong alignment with our kaupapa and organisational values. As you compose your cover letter, highlight how you meet the following lead requirements:

You will need a Social Work qualification recognised by the Social Workers Registration Board NZ, with a preference for candidates holding a post-graduate degree in mental health.
It's crucial that you possess an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and can effectively navigate a Maori cultural setting. Your experience in utilising trauma-informed practice models and working with at-risk patients will be instrumental in this position.
Your role will require the ability to make sound professional judgments tailored to individual circumstances. Building effective working relationships with a diverse range of people to achieve work goals is a key aspect of success in this role.

The full salary range is $82,886 - $102,194. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
