Job Role : Smart Building Networks & OT Engineer

Location : Bengaluru, India

Position overview :

The Smart Building Networks & OT Infrastructure is responsible for the

strategy, design, implementation, security, and ongoing operations

of smart building network and operational technology (OT) infrastructure across client portfolios.

This role owns the development and governance of

network standards, security frameworks, operating models, and change management processes

for smart buildings, ensuring that networks are

secure, resilient, scalable, and compliant

with client, regulatory, and industry requirements.

The role bridges

engineering, IT, OT, cybersecurity, and building systems , working closely with internal design teams, construction partners, subcontractors, and enterprise client stakeholders.

Responsibilities :

Standards, Governance & Operating Model Development

Develop and maintain smart building network standards, including : OT network architecture, Segmentation strategies (OT / IoT / IT), Addressing, VLAN, and routing standards, Wireless and IoT connectivity models.

Define and own operating models, including : Network monitoring and alerting, Incident response and escalation, Change management processes, Documentation and configuration management.

Network Architecture & Design

Lead the design of smart building OT networks, including : Core, distribution, and access-layer design, Resilient architectures (HA, redundancy, failover), Integration of BMS, lighting, AV, IoT, and digital twin systems

Define reference architectures for : On-prem OT networks, Cloud-connected smart building platforms, Digital twin and analytics environments

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

Own OT network security architecture, including : Firewall and segmentation design, Identity and access management (RBAC, MFA, SSO), Secure remote access models, Logging, monitoring, and SIEM integration.

Lead vulnerability management and risk assessments for : OT networks, IoT devices, Cloud-connected building systems.

Ensure compliance with : Client cybersecurity requirements, Third-party security audits and assessments, Incident response and breach notification obligations.

Network Build, Configuration & Commissioning

Oversee network configuration and stand-up, including : Switch, firewall, and wireless configuration, Secure baseline templates, Device provisioning and authentication.

Lead or oversee commissioning and handover activities : Network testing and validation, Security verification, Documentation and baseline sign-off.

Coordinate with system integrators and subcontractors during deployment.

Operations, Maintenance & Support

Own ongoing network operations, including : Monitoring and alerting, Incident management and root-cause analysis, Preventative maintenance and patching, Lifecycle and obsolescence planning.

Manage third-party support providers and subcontractors : Define SLAs and performance metrics, Review service delivery and remediation plans.

Ensure documentation remains current and audit ready.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

Interface with : Client IT, cybersecurity, and real estate teams, Facilities management providers, Cloud and platform vendors

Support client governance processes :

Change approvals, Architecture reviews, Security and compliance audits, Present technical strategies and risk assessments to senior stakeholders

Qualifications & Key Competencies

Technical Expertise :

Minimum 8+ years of experience specializing in network engineering, OT infrastructure, or smart building system services within the building design and construction field.

Strong experience with : OT and IT network design, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, IoT and building automation networks.

Experience deploying or operating : BMS / BAS networks, Digital twin or analytics platforms, Cloud-connected building systems.

Project & Team Leadership :

Experience in managerial or supervisory roles, leading multidisciplinary teams.

Ability to mentor and train junior engineers, fostering knowledge-sharing and skills development.

Strong project management skills, ensuring delivery of high-quality engineering solutions within budget and schedule.

Education :

Bachelor's or master's degree in the related field.
