The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, administering, and improving the organization’s infrastructure and operations to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing technology services. The Senior Systems Administrator will provide day-to-day administration of networks, servers, devices, and core systems, and will ensure that staff have the tools, access, and support required to perform their work effectively. The role will also be responsible for maintaining IT standards, implementing updates, monitoring system health, and ensuring compliance with security and privacy requirements.

The Senior Systems Administrator will play a key role in designing, evolving, and optimizing technology solutions to meet organizational needs. The role will work closely with the Technology Manager and broader team to support ongoing operations, resolve technical issues, lead infrastructure improvements, and contribute to technology projects and initiatives.

A critical aspect of this role will be the ability to develop creative, practical, and cost-effective solutions in response to technical challenges and organizational change. The Senior Systems Administrator will be expected to troubleshoot quickly, adapt to emerging needs, and innovate within a non-profit environment where efficiency, flexibility, and thoughtful use of resources are essential.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of hands-on systems administration, network management, problem solving, and collaborative teamwork, and who is motivated by supporting a mission-driven organization that helps strengthen community health and well-being. The position will be offered in a hybrid work model, with a mix of on-site and remote work based on operational needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Technology Manager.

Maintain and administer core IT services, including virtualization platforms, information systems, databases, and Active Directory
Develop creative, practical, and cost-effective solutions in response to technical challenges, organizational changes, and evolving program needs
Troubleshoots issues quickly and effectively, implementing solutions that balance system reliability with efficient and responsible resource use
Manage and support Debian/Linux web servers and related services
Design, deploy, and upgrade network and server infrastructure (hardware and software)
Implement and monitor system updates, firmware patches, and security upgrades
Maintain reliable backup and recovery processes, including troubleshooting and vendor escalation when needed
Implement and update IT policies, procedures, and practices to ensure security, privacy, and system integrity
Oversee responsible disposal of electronic equipment and e-waste
Manage secure network infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, switches, VPNs, wireless controllers, and remote access services
Monitor network security, performance, and uptime
Recommend equipment, tools, and service improvements based on performance needs and user experience
Support Helpdesk operations, including ticket assignment, escalation, and service level adherence
Prepare and configure IT devices, equipment, and software for staff
Provide user support, onboarding, and training related to IT services and applications
Maintain a current inventory of IT assets, configurations, documentation, and change logs
Resolve complex Tier 2/3 technical issues across systems and infrastructure
Work closely with the Technology team to troubleshoot recurring or high-impact issues
Facilitate technical brainstorming sessions and contribute to continuous improvement
Assess malfunctioning IT equipment and determine repair, replacement, or disposal needs
Prepare regular updates and reports for the Technology Director or Manager
Support Technology projects and organizational technology initiatives as needed
Follow organizational health and safety guidelines
Ensure IT operations comply with internal standards, security requirements, and privacy frameworks
Technical and Behavioral Competencies Required:

A minimum of 3-5 years hands-on working experience in systems administration or network administration
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop cost-effective technical solutions in dynamic, resource-conscious environments.
Experience adapting systems, tools, or processes to meet changing organizational or programmatic needs
Proven experience with Windows Server and Active Directory, network infrastructure (firewalls, switches, VPNs, wireless), Linux/Debian server administration, virtualization technologies
Experience with cloud computing technologies, backup systems, security tools, and patch management
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to respond quickly to urgent or complex technical issues
Experience with client management systems (CMS) in the community healthcare sector is an asset
Familiarity with procedures and best practices to protect privacy and security of confidential, personal and private information
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to support non-technical users
Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Able to work independently and in a team setting
Delivers all services in a professional manner and according to established guidelines and associated benchmarks
Proven experience in liaising with external vendors or consultants
Excellent problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
Ability to quickly learn and understand the operations of Reconnect and the optimal use of computer technology to facilitate effectiveness and efficiency
Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle is required
Workplace Requirements:

Work hours will vary depending on the needs of clients and the organization
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours
Attendance at special events from time to time may be required
