Join our dynamic and friendly nursing team on our thriving Paediatric Outpatient Departments across both St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals. You’ll utilise your experience caring for patients that range from neonates to adulthood. Join the expert team for Health Care Assistants, Phlebotomists and Clinicians who provide excellent high-quality care to children attending our bustling Outpatient Department.

You’ll be able to use your clinical skills to provide Ambulatory services to our wide range of patients and work alongside specialist clinicians to build knowledge and expertise.

Our teams have excellent inter-professional working relationships with services for children including critical care, emergency department, community nursing teams and the acute ward environments.

Undertake a career pathway of training and education that is individually developed for you and supported by our clinical nurse educators who often work alongside you on the ward. There are many opportunities for development such as: leadership programmes, diabetes specialist course and APLS amongst many others.

Your skills will be further enhanced, nursing a diverse range of patients in need of paediatric medical and surgical services, including:
• Dermatology • Ophthalmology • Rheumatology • Respiratory • Allergy/immunology • Diabetes • Epilepsy • Infectious Diseases:

We are recruiting for one full time permanent position and one part time (15hrs) fixed term 1yr maternity cover.

Main duties of the job
• To work alongside the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the delivering care to a wide range of Paediatric patients, including General Paediatrics, Infectious Disease and a number of other clinics.
• To work across the two Outpatient Departments, one at St Mary’s Hospital and one at Hammersmith Hospital, providing high quality ad evidence based care to all patients and carers.
• To act as a clinical expert within the sphere of work.
• Have continuous responsibility for the ward area, providing visible professional leadership and support the management of the ward, ensuring the unit is run in line with local and national safety guidelines.
• The post holder will support junior members of the team and student nurses to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and provide support as needed.
• Be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
• Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area, helping to lead and monitor the performance of the nursing team through audit,
• To offer an individual service and psychological support to patients and their families respecting their diverse backgrounds.
• Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the MDT.
• To work across hospital where this is indicated and as the needs of the service change.

Person specification:

Skills

Essential
• Basic IT skills
• Ability to take charge of a ward or part of a ward, delegate and supervise junior staff

Desirable
• Leadership skills
• Competency in cannulation/ venepuncture

Experience

Essential
• Minimum of 12 months experience at Band 5 within the relevant speciality.
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
• Experience of change management – positive change agent

Education/ qualifications

Essential
• RSCN/RN (child)
• Experience of supervision of junior staff, Mentorship in practice or equivalent
• Excellent level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills

Desirable
• Level 3 safeguarding
• APLS
