Job Description
Position Title: Senior Software Engineer
The Group: Morningstar’s The Enterprise Data Platform is the central nervous system of consolidating, normalizing, calculating and distributing Morningstar’s high-quality data and capabilities around that data for internal and external consumers. EDP is the data provider as well as business enabler. The individuals in this group thrive to enable faster business growth, better scale and improve customer experience by maximizing full commercial and brand value of data sets in their entirety.
The Role: In this role, you will collaborate with the team lead, Scrum Master, business analysts, QA, and other developers to build technology solutions for Morningstar’s DL Platform by developing reusable libraries and tools. You will need to develop a good understanding of the existing cloud architecture and bring in thought leadership to improve and add solutions to this architecture. The team is looking for forward-thinking problem solvers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and can learn new technologies quickly as needed. As such, you should have familiarity with multiple programming languages, and exposure to data analysis projects.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain the software code base of DL Platform. Hands-on development will be an integral part of the responsibilities.
• Help implement software solutions that meet product requirements and quality needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, schedules and adherence to DL goals and principles.
• Reinforce good development practices like test driven development, continuous integration, innovative frameworks and technology solutions that help business move faster.
• Develop areas of continuous and automated deployment.
• Follow best agile practices on estimation, planning, reporting, and improvement in everyday work.
Requirements:
• Completed Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of experience developing software solutions
• 2-3 years working on data analysis projects
• Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills
• Experience mentoring or training other developers
• Strong knowledge of AWS, CDK, SDK, Jupyter, Python, Jenkins, bitbucket and docker
• AWS services like athena, glue, redshift,ecs,ec2,s3,sns,sqs,lambda cloudfront
• Hands on experience with SQL
• Experience with cloud computing (preferably AWS), Hadoop, Spark or other BigData platforms
• Expertise with DevOps tools, CI/CD
