About the Job
This position provides maintenance and operation of the Animal Science animal facilities under the direction of the Ag Supv 2. The role involves performing major and minor mechanical work on various types of agricultural equipment, including trucks, tractors, utility vehicles, farm and livestock equipment, waste handling equipment, livestock and general type trailers, pumps, generators, mobile welding units, and implements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance and Mechanical: Perform routine maintenance tasks, fabricate specialized parts or apparatuses for departmental production equipment, and ensure that all equipment is in good working condition.
Facility Maintenance: Assist with facility management, instruction, and research activities, and perform general animal care duties.
Field Operations: Operate various types of agricultural equipment, including skid loaders, wheel tractors, crawler tractors, harvesters, swathers, balers, and other equipment.
General Facilities Relief Labor: Perform miscellaneous tasks as needed to support the daily operations of the Animal Science department.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: No minimum education required, but experience with specialized ag equipment/livestock systems is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to complete and maintain complete records of all duties performed, skills to prepare, plant, and harvest fields for forage production, and ability to milk cows in a state-inspected dairy.
Working Conditions
The selected candidate will work outdoors in a dusty environment, in temperatures ranging from 23 - 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and around animals in confined areas. The position requires occasional overtime to complete unforeseen responsibilities and may involve working in all types of weather conditions.
