Senior Designer CMF Industrial Design

JOB PURPOSE
As a CMF Senior Designer specializing in home appliances, you will work closely with our design and engineering teams to develop new products from concept to production that push the visual and user experience to new levels. This role requires a strong understanding of colour theory, material properties, and surface finish.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to all stages of the design process, including research, ideation, prototyping, and testing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design Execution: Generate CMF design concepts and proposals that align with product requirements, project objectives and user needs, using evocative visuals, mood boards and physical samples.
• Explore and evaluate a wide range of materials, considering factors such as functionality, aesthetics, durability, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility, to determine the most suitable materials for our products.
• Specify surface finishes, textures and treatments that enhance the visual and tactile qualities of our products, ensuring consistency with the overall design vision and brand aesthetic, without sacrificing functionality of parts.
• Cross Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with cross functional teams including industrial designers, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals and technical requirements ensuring smooth handover.
• Material and Process Expertise: Propose appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to achieve design intent, cost efficiency, and sustainability goals.
• Maintain awareness of current design trends, materials, and technologies in the home appliance industry and document.
• Design Documentation:
• Exploring, refining, and documenting design solutions and processes.
• Specify and document approved design’s form, colour specifications, materials/finishes and visual acceptance standards for Engineering and Manufacturing via “Industrial Design CMF Specification” document to ensure consistency and quality across manufacturing processes.
• Compile and update CMF brochures with a great level of accuracy.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
B.Des/M.Des in Product Design, Graphic, Lifestyle design or a related field.
Work Experience
• 5-10 years of professional experience in industrial design, with a significant focus on home appliances/lifestyle/automotive.
• A robust portfolio demonstrating your CMF design process, creativity, innovative solutions and successful products in the home appliance or similar sector.
INTERNAL / EXTERNAL INTERFACE
• Industrial Design team
• ED/AD/COE/Marketing
FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES
• Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino, Belnder), and rendering tools (KeyShot, VRay or equivalent).
• Creative Skills: Exceptional sketching and visualization skills with a strong sense of aesthetics.
• A deep knowledge of colour theory, material properties, and surface finishes, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
• Excellent insight, expertise and understanding of plastic manufacturing processes, and materials.
• Strong understanding on how principal materials/textures & graphical patterns can be processed and applied on 3D forms
• User-Centered Design: Clear understanding of user-centered design principles and practices.
• Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, engineering principles and sustainable design practices.
• Strong understanding of principal materials such as paint, plastic, texture, and decorative finishes.
