This role must have experience in working within the construction industry or general contracting and knowledgeable in cost accounting. The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions.
This position will transition all accounting from an outside CPA firm to in-house, and eventually report to a Corporate Controller through a private-equity partnership.
The position is in-office or hybrid/remote within driving distance.
Responsibilities:
1. General Accounting and Financial Reporting: - Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements. - Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and financial reports. - Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
2. Month-End and Year-End Close: - Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes. - Prepare and post adjusting journal entries. - Ensure all financial close deadlines are met.
3. Reconciliation and Analysis: - Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts. - Conduct variance analyses to explain differences between budgeted and actual results.
4. Compliance and Internal Controls: - Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company policies.
5. Budgeting and Forecasting: - Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts. - Monitor and report on variances from budget. - Provide insights and recommendations for financial improvements.
6. Tax and Regulatory Filings: - Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns and other regulatory reports. - Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience in a senior accounting or supervisory role within Construction industry.
Skills: - Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle). - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
