Job Description
Security and Loss Prevention Systems include lock and key management programs, responses to and understanding of overall hospital fire and evacuation systems and communications center (CCTV, Infant Abduction Alarms, Intrusion Alarms and Access Control) functions. The Loss Prevention / Security Officer uses computerized reporting and incident management programs, Internet based data gathering and Internet web structure to provide services and perform jobs.
Responsibilities:
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
Patrols hospital buildings, contracts buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and intruders.
Monitors conduct of visitors on hospital premises, confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
Reports life safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
Participates in all emergencies and drills
Escorts personnel or visitors to parking lots & hospital buildings.
Participates in investigations; electronically maintains records and prepared incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities
Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
Secures patient valuables, lost and found articles and patient property. Maintains logs of items received.
Controls parking and traffic flow. Enforces parking regulations while on vehicle or foot patrol.
Assists with care and maintenance of equipment and supplies in security and communications center.
Assists in providing restraints on combative and psychiatric patients as needed.
Monitors hospital premises and corridors from communications center.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Assists and is able to operate PBX equipment.
Operate and understand all aspects of the CCTV recording system.
Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licenses:
Valid New Mexico Driver’s License required. BLS required within 2 weeks of hire, De-escalation ((SAMA (Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression)) is required within 60 days of hire and Taser Certification is required within 90 days of hire. State of New Mexico Security Guard Level I and II are preferred
Skills:
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
Basic computer knowledge
Understanding of basic loss prevention electronic systems
Experience:
Prevention experience in law enforcement, corrections or security preferred.
Environment:
Bloodborne pathogen B
The Loss Prevention/Security Officer’s function is subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Emergency and crisis circumstances, irregular working hours and exposure to assaultive behavior occur regularly
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged walking, standing or running up or down stairwells in emergency situations. Physically able to assist in restraining an average adult weighing approximately 150 pounds. Responds to and monitors potentially dangerous, violent or escalating situations with proper intervention and techniques to ensure safety of all persons concerned
