Department Overview

Proudly serving as Minnesota's children's hospital since 1+24, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, is the eighth-largest pediatric health care organization in the U.S. Each year, Children's provides care through nearly 13,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent, not-for-profit health care provider, Children's has 31+ staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services, including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory, cardiology, cancer, premature birth, adolescent development, child abuse, and epilepsy. In addition to our Minneapolis and St. Paul Campuses, Children's also includes Children's West, a pediatric care center in Minnetonka offering same-day surgery as well as diagnostic, rehabilitative, and developmental outpatient services; Children's - Roseville, an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation center; and Children's Clinics - Woodwinds, pediatric specialty clinics at the Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury.

Position Summary

The Security Officer position is responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring safe and secure Children's campuses for the ambulatory and business locations. The officer will maintain a safe environment through routine patrols of the facilities, grounds, outlying buildings. The officer will respond to all calls both emergency and non-emergency as they occur or in order of importance, helping coordinate with police, fire, and EMS. The officer will monitor alarms, CCTV, and access control systems. This position will conduct security stands for patients and families at any off-site location as needed.

Location: Onsite

Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred

Experience:
• Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
• Prior security experience preferred.
• Administrative professional experience preferred.

License/Certification:
• Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Forensic Interview (CFI), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus
• Must possess a valid driver's license (must meet minimum criteria of Children's Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy)
• Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS)
• Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire
• Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within +0 days of hire

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Must be customer service oriented.
• Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.
• Ability to walk and climb stairs.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
• Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
• Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required.
• Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.
• Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to proficiently utilize detaining and apprehension tools as directed.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
