Job Description
We're looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Sample Preparation Technician (General Labourer) to join our team in Prince Rupert, BC.
Unpack, sort, transfer, and dry geological samples in accordance with work order instructions and laboratory quality guidelines
Execute crushing, pulverizing, and screening of geological materials following established Standard Operating Procedures
Conduct routine quality checks including particle size analysis and dust loss measurements, reporting any out-of-specification results immediately to supervisors
Complete and maintain accurate work order documentation and enter Quality Control results into laboratory information management systems as required
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workbench area, ensuring spills are promptly cleaned and disposed of according to laboratory procedures, including special handling requirements for international materials
Inspect equipment regularly and alert supervisors to any damaged, defective, or malfunctioning equipment requiring adjustment or maintenance
Keep detailed records and notebooks in good order, including work order logs and equipment maintenance documentation
Support other areas of the laboratory when needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn new processes
Ensure full compliance with company Health & Safety policies, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct standards
Qualifications
High school Diploma or equivalent
0-1 years of relevant laboratory or sample preparation experience, or equivalent experience through education
Strong analytical and mechanical skills with the ability to perform routine bench tests accurately
Excellent attention to detail and proven time management abilities
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Ability to read, understand, and follow technical work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner
Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
Physical capability to perform manual labor tasks, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and working in a laboratory environment
Flexibility to work rotating shifts, extended hours, and shift work as required
Strong safety-conscious mindset with commitment to maintaining a secure workplace
Willingness to learn new analytical tests, instrumentation, and laboratory procedures
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
Openness to travel to other laboratory locations or client sites when necessary
Commitment to upholding company Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies
Additional Information
Salary: $22 to $23 per hour / 40 hours per week
