Job Description
Retail Counter Sales Representative
Peterman Lumber is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Retail Counter Sales Representative to join our Arizona team. This position is responsible for assisting customers at our sales counter, processing orders, answering product questions, and providing exceptional customer service.
We specialize in architectural building products including hardwood plywood, decorative panels, mouldings, doors, hardware, and related interior finish materials. Industry experience is helpful but not required—we can teach our products and systems. We're looking for someone with the aptitude and drive to learn.
Responsibilities
Assist customers in person, over the phone, and through email.
Accurately enter customer orders into our ERP system.
Provide product information, pricing, and availability.
Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
Follow up on customer inquiries and orders.
Maintain accurate customer and order records.
Deliver professional, courteous, and responsive customer service.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Good math skills and the ability to work comfortably with dimensions, quantities, pricing, and product specifications.
Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash handling, credit card transactions, and balancing sales transactions.
Computer proficiency and accurate data entry skills.
Ability to learn industry-specific ERP software and product information.
Professional phone etiquette and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong listening skills and the ability to understand customer needs before offering solutions.
Curiosity and a genuine desire to learn about architectural products, decorative panels, hardwood plywood, doors, mouldings, hardware, and related interior finish materials.
Coachability and openness to feedback, training, and continuous improvement.
Initiative and the ability to solve problems and follow through on customer requests.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in retail sales, counter sales, customer service, inside sales, banking, hospitality, or other customer-facing roles.
Experience using POS systems, order entry software, ERP systems, or business software applications.
Experience with architectural building products, panel products, hardwood plywood, decorative surfaces, cabinetry materials, doors, mouldings, or related industries is a plus, but not required.
