In partnership with our community, Environment Southland (Southland Regional Council) is responsible for the sustainable management of Southland's natural resources - our land, our water, our air and our coast. As a Regional Council we operate across a large geographical region which extends from Stewart Island to Fiordland.

Working at Environment Southland requires all of our staff to uphold the council's Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities as part of their day-to-day role. This might be through the appropriate delivery of functions through various legislation where Te Tiriti o Waitangi or partnering with mana whenua is required or upholding the commitments that our elected councillors have made to Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku through the Charter of Understanding.

Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a person who has proven investigative and enforcement skills, combined with knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Criminal Procedures Act 2011 and other relevant legislation.

The successful applicant will demonstrate attention to detail, have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage complex investigations and prosecutions from interviewing through to the conclusion of the court process.

An understanding of the agricultural sector is a bonus and skill at dealing with sensitive and confidential issues is essential and you must be able to adapt under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.

This is a role that will provide many challenges but will also give you the opportunity to utilise a wide range of skills and enhance your knowledge of the legal system.

Environment Southland is responsible under the Resource Management Act 1++1 for looking after the region's natural and physical resources. You could have a fundamental part in achieving this, so come and join us.

In return, Environment Southland can offer you a dynamic and friendly working environment, access to a wide range of technology, training and support, and the chance to make a real difference to Southland's natural environment.

Beaches, ski fields, 4 out of 10 of NZ Great Walks, national parks, lakes and fiords are all a short journey from Invercargill. Combined with reasonable house prices, short commutes and a relaxed pace of life, it all makes Southland a great place to live and work.

Please upload your CV and cover letter. Your cover letter will be a key part of our assessment process, so please highlight how your experience relates to the key skills required for this role.

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $+7,740 - $103,170.
