The Position
The Research Fellow will contribute to the ARC Discovery Project “Seeing through Space and Time” with investigators Prof. Robert Mahony (ANU), Dr. Tim Molloy (Monash) and Prof. Girish Nair (University of Melbourne). The successful candidate will be based at ANU working under the supervision of Prof. Robert Mahony with the opportunity to travel to both the other project nodes. The candidate will be integral to all aspects of the research program in this grant including direct research, student supervision, publication and publicity activities, code development, and collaboration with industry, open source, and academic partners. The project goal is to develop and demonstrate a stochastic design framework for asynchronous spatio-temporal event-array processing for event cameras. The project lies at the intersection of robotics, systems and control and computer vision and suitable candidates from any of these domains can be considered. The Systems Theory and Robotics group is a world leading research group in the development of foundational theory, algorithms and technology for application to robotic system, computer vision, and systems and control. They will contribute to, and in some cases lead, open-source projects working within the team. They will undertake direct collaborative research with the investigators (Mahony, Molloy, Nair) and with their colleagues and collaborators. The position provides the opportunity to travel within Australia to pursue collaboration as well as attend international conferences to present research outcomes. There will be an opportunity to undertaken independent research activities within the constraints of the project commitments as well.
The Person
The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic research team at ANU working across robotics, systems and control theory, and computer vision, with the opportunity to mentor colleagues and contribute to our inclusive community through interdisciplinary, team-based projects. A strong background in stochastic processes and algorithms for applications in robotics, control, and/or computer vision is required (e.g., state estimation in robotics, stochastic control in systems and control theory, stochastic image processing or probabilistic computer vision).
