About us
The UCL Ear Institute is a world-leading international centre for research and teaching related to understanding hearing and improving hearing, balance and ENT care. Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary institute has circa 75 staff working across basic and clinical sciences including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory systems neuroscience, cognitive and computational neuroscience, audiological sciences and ENT medicine. The UCL Ear Institute together with its partner, the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat & Eastman Dental Hospitals, also hosts a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Theme in 'Hearing Health'. A RAND analysis of highly cited publications ranked UCL No.1 in England for both ‘Deafness and Hearing’ and for ‘Audiology and Speech & Language Pathology’.

Training the next generation of auditory scientists is a priority at the UCL Ear Institute. The Institute hosts three-and four-year PhD programmes in a wide range of basic and clinical disciplines, including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory neuroscience and human auditory function. It also offers a range of Master's-level programmes in audiology and audiovestibular research, as well as short courses for students and health-care professionals. About the role
This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the set-up and operation of a translational auditory science laboratory at UCL’s internationally recognised Ear Institute. Working closely with the Professor of Translational Auditory Science, you will play a key role in establishing and maintaining specialist auditory equipment, developing laboratory processes, and supporting a wide range of research activities.

The post holder will contribute to cutting-edge research in auditory perception and neuroscience by assisting with the design and delivery of psychoacoustic and electrophysiological experiments. This includes supporting participant recruitment, data collection, analysis, and the preparation of research outputs, within a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

This is a 0.5FTE fixed term 1 year post in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for up to three years in total.

About you
You will have a strong academic background (educated to MSc level or equivalent) in physics, audio engineering, or a related field, with experience of conducting experimental research in auditory or speech perception. You will bring technical expertise in areas such as coding (e.g. Matlab or similar), sound recording, signal processing, and the calibration of specialist equipment.

In addition, you will be an organised and proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. You will be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team, demonstrating a collaborative approach and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
