An affiliated IGCSE school in South Mumbai is hiring for the post of a remedial teacher.
To enhance the mental health and well-being of students in the school; to identify, assess and intervene for specific cases where students need remedial education or counselling or both.
• Functional Duties
• Remedial Teaching and Learning
• Identification
- Identify students with potential Learning Disabilities (LD)/ Developmental Disorders (DDs) using a variety of screening methods and inputs from a variety of people
- Conduct differential diagnoses for students with LD (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia), ADHD and other comorbid DDs
- Identify normal students with simple learning difficulties that are not due to DDs but due to other factors poor concept development, poor environmental inputs, etc.
• Assessment
- Conduct preliminary screening for the various DDs in identified students using screening tools
- Develop informal assessment tools for the 3Rs (Reading, Writing, Arithmetic) that can be administered to students
- Evaluate Psychological Reports, where available, using the data to create an intervention plan for the students concerned
• Intervention
- Inform the Principal, and enable the Principal to communicate with parents to initiate the formal assessment process for students identified with potential DDs/obtain permission from parents to initiate a formal assessment process where required.
- Conduct simple remediation for students facing conceptual and other learning difficulties (but who do not have LD, ADHD, etc.)
- Work with children with DDs to develop sensory integration and perceptual skills
- Use a variety of methods to encourage learning: Graphic organizers, mind maps, task analysis, use of interventions engaging multiple intelligences of learners
- Create Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) to enhance skills in Reading, Writing, Mathematics
- Share IEPs with teachers and assist them in implementation.
- Use a variety of methods to develop Executive Functioning Skills in students with DDs (LD & ADHD)
• Requirements:
- Bachalors in Education or Masters in Education
- Good English communication skills
- Experience as a cousellor/ special educator or remedial teacher
