Job Description

Full job description
Start your career in Records and Information Management and build skills that support transparency, accountability and good governance.

The Role

As the Records & Information Cadet, you will gain practical experience within Council's Records and Information Management team, developing the skills and knowledge required to support effective recordkeeping, information governance and legislative compliance.

You will assist with a range of tasks including processing incoming correspondence, maintaining records in Council’s document management system, and supporting the accuracy, security, and accessibility of information. You will learn how to apply records management practices and legislative requirements in a real-world environment.

This is not an Information Technology role. It is an opportunity to develop expertise in records management, information governance and corporate recordkeeping within a local government environment.

Working within a supportive team, you will develop your capability in information management systems, customer service, and administrative processes. This role provides an excellent foundation for a career in records, information governance, or broader public sector administration.

Key Accountabilities:

Deliver timely and accurate mail services, including opening, sorting, scanning, registering, and distributing incoming correspondence.
Register, classify, and manage records in Council’s Electronic Document and Records Management System (Content Manager), ensuring accuracy and quality.
Apply records management practices in line with Council policies and legislative requirements, including the State Records Act.
Always maintain the security and confidentiality of information.
Retrieve, store, and maintain hardcopy records, including off-site storage coordination.
Provide professional customer service by responding to enquiries and helpdesk requests, ensuring timely resolution.
Assist with records management projects, including digitisation, back-scanning, and records disposal activities.

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is eager to build a career in records and information management, information governance, archives or public sector administration.

You will bring:
Currently enrolled in and working towards completion of a qualification in Records and Information Management or a related field such as Business Administration, Public Administration, Information Governance, Library and Information Studies, or another discipline relevant to records and information management.
An interest in records management, information governance, archives, compliance, or local government administration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and interpret information.
Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
A high level of attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
A professional approach to handling confidential and sensitive information.
A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new systems.

What We Offer

Salary from $54,529.18 to $62,466.14 p.a. (full time equivalent), plus 12% superannuation
This is a temporary part-time position for a maximum period of two years, or until the completion of the employee's studies, whichever occurs first
We offer flexible working arrangements, with days and hours to be agreed upon with the successful candidates to support both work and study commitments
Generous leave entitlements, including annual leave, personal leave, additional MyLeave
Access to Fitness Passport for you and your family
Confidential Employee Assistance Program
Employee Rewards Program

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be entering your penultimate or final year (due to finish late 2027 or in 2028) of a relevant undergraduate degree, certificate or diploma and remain enrolled for the duration of the cadetship.
