Position: Quality Inspection Engineer / Quality Inspector – Mechanical

Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control

Work Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Experience: Minimum 5 Years

Preferred Experience: Cement Industry, Heavy Engineering, Steel / Foundry Industry, Mining Equipment, Cement Grinding Units, Industrial Machinery.

Qualification

B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering.
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with relevant industrial experience.
Additional certification in Quality / Welding / NDT will be an added advantage.

Job Summary

The Quality Inspection Engineer / Inspector will be responsible for carrying out and coordinating quality inspections at supplier and subcontractor locations across India. The role involves inspection of mechanical components and equipment, monitoring manufacturing quality, reviewing technical and quality documentation, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring that products are manufactured and delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and project schedules.

The candidate should be willing to travel extensively within India for supplier inspections, manufacturing surveillance, testing, final inspections, painting inspections, packing inspections, and other project-related activities.



Key Responsibilities:

Carry out quality inspections at supplier manufacturing locations as per approved drawings, specifications, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs).
Perform inspection of mechanical components and equipment at various stages of manufacturing.
Verify dimensions, workmanship, material condition, surface condition, and other specified quality requirements.
Witness and review various testing activities as required.
Coordinate with suppliers for correction and closure of quality deviations.
The candidate should have practical exposure to, or willingness to learn Welding inspection, DPT / PT, MPI / MT, UT.
Inspect surface preparation and painting activities according to project specifications.
Carry out final packing inspection before dispatch. Verify packing condition, preservation, identification tags, shipping marks, and protection of components.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, inspection requirements, and applicable standards before inspection.
Identify deviations and communicate them clearly to suppliers and internal teams.
Maintain regular communication with suppliers regarding manufacturing progress and quality requirements.
Follow up on inspection findings, NCRs, rework, and corrective actions.
Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely completion of quality-related activities.
Support supplier expediting activities wherever required to ensure project delivery commitments are achieved.
Prepare detailed inspection reports after completion of inspections.
Review supplier quality documents and test certificates.
Verify Material Test Certificates (MTCs), test reports, calibration certificates, NDT reports, dimensional reports, and other relevant quality documents.
Maintain proper inspection records and ensure traceability of inspection activities.
Support compilation of Quality Dossiers / Manufacturing Record Dossiers for individual POs and projects.


Required Technical Skills

Good knowledge of mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Knowledge of dimensional inspection and measuring instruments.
Understanding of welding and fabrication processes.
Basic knowledge of NDT methods such as UT, DPT, MPI, and VT.
Knowledge of painting and coating inspection.
Knowledge of material certificates and quality documentation.
Understanding of inspection procedures, ITPs, QAPs, and technical specifications.
Good knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Ability to prepare professional inspection reports.
