Project Coordinator - AYA Cancer Network Aotearoa
Job Description
Here's an exciting opportunity to help improve outcomes for young people with cancer across Aotearoa New Zealand!
Part-time position (0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week)
Grafton location
Fixed-term position until July 2027, with a view to extension
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
The Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Network Aotearoa is seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to join our small, high-performing national team.
This is a varied and rewarding national role that combines high-quality administration with coordination across projects, communications, stakeholder engagement, and youth participation. Working closely with the National Programme Manager and Clinical Lead, you'll play an important role in keeping the Network running smoothly while supporting initiatives that improve cancer care and outcomes for rangatahi (young people) affected by cancer.
No two days are the same. One day you might be supporting a national working group by preparing agendas and papers, taking minutes, or coordinating travel and logistics. The next, you could be developing communications and resources, updating website content, coordinating stakeholder input, supporting the Rangatahi Advisory Group, or helping progress one of the Network's national priorities. If you enjoy variety, working with great people, and contributing to meaningful work, this could be the role for you.
For further details, please refer to the position description here.
About the Network
The AYA Cancer Network Aotearoa was established in 2014 to lead improvements in cancer care for young people aged 12-24 years. Working collaboratively with Health New Zealand, Te Aho o Te Kahu, clinicians, NGOs, and rangatahi, the Network provides national leadership to improve the quality, equity, and consistency of AYA cancer care across Aotearoa.
About you
We're looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, thrives on variety, and takes pride in making things happen. You'll be an experienced administrator or coordinator who is highly organised, proactive, and able to juggle competing priorities while building positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
Ideally, you'll also bring experience working within the New Zealand health sector and an understanding of the needs and perspectives of young people.
Experience supporting digital communications, such as updating website content, social media, or creating simple visual resources, would be an advantage. We're happy to support the right person to further develop these skills. What matters most is that you bring strong organisational and administrative skills, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their skills and gain experience across a diverse range of national projects and initiatives within the health sector.
