Job Description
As a Principal UI Engineer at our client's organization, your primary responsibility will be to serve as the architect of the React ecosystem. You will not only build features but also play a crucial role as the 'Engineer for the Engineers', ensuring scalability, performance, and developer velocity of the entire frontend organization. Your mission is to enable developers to deliver world-class interfaces with high confidence and zero friction.
Key Responsibilities:
- **React Architecture & Evolution**:
- Own the transition and implementation of modern React patterns, including React Server Components (RSC), streaming SSR, and advanced data-fetching patterns.
- **API Contract Simplification**:
- Act as the primary bridge between UI and Backend/Platform teams, driving the design of 'Frontend-Friendly' APIs.
- **Developer Experience (DX) Tooling**:
- Architect and maintain a high-performance build pipeline, migrating legacy setups to Rust-based tooling for sub-second hot-reloading and fast CI builds.
- **Design System Engineering**:
- Lead the technical implementation of the headless UI component library, ensuring TypeScript safety, accessibility, and seamless integration with design workflows.
- **AI-Augmented Productivity**:
- Evaluate and integrate AI coding assistants into the workflow to automate boilerplate tasks and enhance productivity.
- **Performance Observability**:
- Build custom dashboards to monitor Core Web Vitals and React-specific metrics, ensuring best-in-class 'Time to Interactive' (TTI).
Success Metrics for the First Year:
- **Build Performance**:
- Reduce local development startup time and CI pipeline duration by >50%.
- **Onboarding Velocity**:
- Reduce the 'Time to First PR' for new hires from days to hours.
- **System Adoption**:
- Achieve 90%+ adoption of the core Design System across all product squads.
- **Code Health**:
- Lower the Change Failure Rate by implementing automated 'guardrail' tooling.
In this role, you will not be assigned to a specific product squad like a Senior React Dev. Instead, you will have a horizontal role, deciding how pages are built, which React version to use, and how to measure success.
