The ACT Education Directorate seeks passionate and qualified Italian /English Bilingual Primary School Teachers for a primary setting in Canberra at Yarralumla Primary School.
We believe in the life changing impact of education. We are guided by the Future of Education Strategy, where our students are central to everything we do. The growing ACT public education system educates more than 51,000 students across 92 public schools, from early childhood to college.
This year theACT Government launched Inclusive Education: A Disability Inclusion Strategy for ACT Public Schools 2024-2034. The strategy aims to deliver greater inclusion for students with disability across all ACT public schools by making sure schools have the support they need to meet the needs of all learners.
About the school:
Yarralumla Primary School is in a leafy, tranquil setting in inner-suburban Yarralumla, about 3 kilometres from the centre of Canberra and nestled on the banks of the iconic Lake Burley Griffin. It is a community-focused, neighbourhood school which caters for children from ages 3 to 12. The strength of the school lies in the close partnership between students, staff and parents and the wider community.
Yarralumla Primary School is the only Italian/English Bilingual school in the Australia Capital Territory. Its bilingual program has been operating since 2009 and its reputation and popularity has blossomed over the years, growing from 35 to nearly 320 students across Kindergarten to Year 6. The program is taught using the Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) pedagogy where K-6 children learn the Australian Curriculum in both English and Italian. Research, including student assessment, reveals that students in bilingual settings enjoy cognitive advantages, excellent social understandings, and personal fulfillment.

Eligibility requirements for employment
To be eligible to be employed as a teacher in an ACT public school, you must have:
Education qualifications – Have an approved four-year full-time tertiary education qualification. Detailed information is available from the AITSL website.
Teacher registration – Hold a valid approval to teach with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI). If you do not hold a teacher registration with the ACT TQI, we suggest starting your application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity. Teachers holding registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand are eligible for mutual recognition.
Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration – Have a valid ACT WWVP. If you don’t, we suggest starting your application process at the same time.
Approved working status – Be an Australian citizen and/or be permanent resident and/or hold a valid working visa. Business sponsorship is available and assessed on an individual basis. Email eduteachingincanberra@act.gov.au to find out more.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.
