Platform Services Engineer
Job Description
Platform Services Engineers are versed in the differences between IaaS, PaaS, FaaS, CaaS, and SaaS. They have experience working with these different deployment topologies , understand the cost implications of each, and can advise on when to use each one. They are expert nearrs and are able to quickly vet numerous solutions to determine which ones may apply to their situation.
Platform Engineers know that self-evident solutions will endure longer than crafty hacks and they strive to deliver solutions that others can adopt and maintain. These engineers know that their role is to make their colleagues’ lives easier and they work towards that goal every day.
Primary Job Functions
Monitor Ticket Queue for new requests, assign as needed, and work tickets to completion.
Build, troubleshoot, and maintain CI D pipelines in Azure Dev Ops.
Design, deploy, and troubleshoot Applications running in Kubernetes clusters across the enterprise. Routinely review existing manifests and helm charts to ensure adherence to current standards.
Maintain all Infrastructure changes in the appropriate IaC repository. Review pending changes as needed and apply them to appropriate environments as warranted.
Implement monitoring for all critical workloads using available resources. Configure and tune alerts as needed to ensure appropriate teams are notified of changes to application availability and performance.
Work to ensure that all shared code libraries are current and accurate. Realize opportunities to improve current codebases as needed, refactoring code as warranted to address deficiencies and bugs as discovered.
Document existing and emerging technical standards to ensure intended audiences are aware of new patterns and practices. Enforce stated standards when appropriate and revise them as needed to maintain relevance.
Ensure Platform components are patched, upgraded, and secured as warranted.
Implement end-to-end automation for all tasks deemed to be repetitive.
Audit and revise existing solutions as needed to ensure all shared codebases are current and accurate.
Ability to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot issues presented by end-users to reduce downtime and outages.
Attend all daily scrum calls, speaking to progress and impediments as applicable. Document all work in Azure Dev Ops.
Ensure adherence to the company’s ITSM processes and procedures. File Change Requests for all production changes and represent said changes in front of committees as warranted.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on experience administering Windows and r Linux Virtual Machines.
3+ years working with any modern programming language, with a preference for experience working with; C#, Python, NodeJS, or Java.
3+ years of experience working with git. Knowledge of branching strategies, merging, conflict resolution, and tagging.
3+ years of experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform, Ansible, Packer, and Power Shell DSC.
2+ years of experience working with any Cloud Infrastructure, preferably Microsoft Azure or Google Compute Cloud.
2+ years of experience with various networking concepts. Possess an understanding of the OSI model and know which technologies support the most common layers.
2+ years of experience working with Containerized workloads and their related tooling. Practical experience working with any form of Kubernetes.
2+ years’ experience consuming REST APIs using any modern programming language. Strong understanding of HTTP status codes and their meanings.
2+ years of experience working with modern monitoring solutions including Grafana, Prometheus, Log Analytics, Elasticsearch, and Kibana.
Familiarity, or experience, with SRE Concepts including availability, redundancy, instrumentation, and root cause analysis.
Understanding of Dev Ops methodologies including CI D, process automation, and continued improvement.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications
Hands-on experience coding in HCL. Intimately familiar with HCL patterns, functions, and practices. Working knowledge of the different tools in the Hashicorp toolchain.
Strong experience handling security concerns such as Secret handling, lifecycle, and rotation. Understanding of secure communication protocols.
Experience building web-based applications in Python or JavaScript.
5+ years of experience with Microsoft technologies and software platforms such as C#, .NET, , or ASP.NET.
Experience working with VSCode or Visual Studio IDE.
Experience using tools such as Beyond Compare.
3+ Years of experience writing and tuning Dockerfiles. Knowledge or Dockerfile patterns and best practices
