Job Description
Discovery School has a part-time Teacher/part-time SEA position (it is a 0.2 FTE, on Fridays only) at the High School level available. The teaching courses are Art Grades + -12, Drama/Dance Grade +, Textiles, Life Skills 11, Library, and Marketing 11/E-Commerce 12. The teaching time is salary based, determined by experience and the SEA blocks are paid on a per hour rate. The person hired will assist with duty, extra-curricular activities and will also be given substitute teaching opportunities within the school, as scheduling and situation permits. The position requires an energetic, organized teacher who has demonstrated excellence in curriculum delivery and differentiation. Discovery School is an independent school for diverse students with various learning needs.
Qualification:
Must be a BC certified teacher and in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Board.
Possess superb written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal skills.
First aid certification needs to be up to date, or the candidate must be willing to update.
Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check from the TRB (or submitted at time of job offer if certification is in process).
Requirements/Expectations:
Possess solid understanding of course related curricular and core competencies.
Be able to design lessons that will motivate and engage active learning.
Model effective instructional practices and provide diverse learning opportunities.
Have positive, proactive classroom management skills.
Use learning strategies, resources, and instruments that support best practices in instruction for students with learning needs to succeed.
Work collaboratively with staff on learning updates.
Be flexible, professional, positive, organized, and team oriented.
Build trusting relationships and engage in open continuous communication with students, staff, and parents.
Commit to model and uphold the values of Discovery School.

Pay: $28.00-$45.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 per week
