About the Role
As a Paralegal within our Federal Workers Compensation team, you will provide advice and assistance in dealing with our clients' legal matters. You will represent HBA and our clients in the Administrative Tribunal and focus primarily on Workers Compensation claims. Working closely with senior fee-earners, you will grow your technical skills in key areas such as legal writing, research and information synthesis, analytical thinking and commercial acumen.
This role is an exciting casual opportunity, working 3 days per week in our Sydney office and would suit a second year law student who is looking to balance work and study!
What you'd be doing in this role:
Assist with and oversee all stages of the summons and T-documents processes
Prepare chronologies
Book medical appointments and examinations
Organise service providers in relation to hearings, i.e. translators and Counsel.
Legal research
Social media surveillance
Telephone calls and correspondence to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, other parties' solicitors and counsel as required.
Assist with providing advice and managing files in a clear and logical manner within required timeframes whilst developing sound case management strategies.
Conduct investigations, including interviewing witnesses and reviewing documents.
Assist with the drafting of Tribunal documents (i.e. Statements of Facts, Issues and Contentions, Submissions etc.)
Speak to witnesses and brief experts
Prepare and engross reports for clients and claims managers
Undertake work for and delegate work to other members of the team. Delegate and manage work direction to administrative assistants
Ensure understanding and compliance of firm's policies and procedures
Stay abreast of industry updates including decisions and changes to legislation to determine ramifications for cases. Take a proactive approach to sharing that information with clients through newsletter articles.
