Outfitting Engineer
Job Description
The key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:
Develop and manage outfitting designs for equipment, fittings, and infrastructure on ships or amphibious platforms
Ensure all outfitting (e.g., fixtures, mounts, storage systems, access points) supports safe and effective operation of Army capability at sea
Coordinate integration of mechanical, structural, and auxiliary systems (e.g., tie-downs, cradles, power connections, handling gear)
Ensure compliance with naval standards, including seaworthiness, safety, and space/weight constraints
Work closely with naval architects, marine engineers, and Army stakeholders to resolve layout and interface issues
Oversee or review installation activities during build or modification phases
Contribute to design reviews (PDR/CDR) and ensure outfitting considerations are incorporated early
Support configuration and change management relating to physical integration
Assist with verification and trials, ensuring outfitted systems function correctly during sea trials and amphibious operations
Identify and manage integration risks, particularly where land equipment interfaces with maritime platforms
Ensure maintainability, accessibility, and human factors considerations (ergonomics, safe access, handling) are addressed
Essential Requirements:
Engineering Degree qualification (Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture, or related discipline).
Knowledge of systems integration across land and maritime domains
Experience in the design and assessment of: Equipment mounting and securing systems - Stowage and handling arrangements - Space,weight and centre of gravity considerations
Strong understanding of Defence engineering and certification frameworks, preferably maritime
Highly developed working knowledge of mechanical and structural design particularly in constrained environments.
Working understanding of verification, testing and trials processes
Demonstrated to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and the ability to develop positive working relationships through high level communication skills.
Desirable Requirements:
Knowledge of configuration management and change control processes
Experience in amphibious or littoral operations environments
