Outdoor Autonomy Engineer
Job Description
Role Description The Outdoor Autonomy Engineer will design, implement, and test autonomy algorithms for field robots operating in orchards and other offroad environments.
This full-time, on-site role in India, involves developing perception, localization, navigation, and control modules that are robust to outdoor conditions such as uneven terrain, variable lighting, and changing weather.
Day-to-day work includes writing and maintaining high-quality robotics software, integrating sensors and actuators, tuning and validating algorithms in simulation and in the field, and analyzing logs to continuously improve performance.
The engineer will collaborate closely with hardware, product, and field operations teams to plan test campaigns, deploy new capabilities, and rapidly iterate based on farmer feedback.
The role also includes documenting systems, contributing to safety and reliability standards, and helping shape the roadmap for future multi-utility robotic applications.
Qualifications
• 3+ years of strong robotics software skills, including experience with C++ and/or Python, ROS or similar middleware, and real-time or near real-time systems development.
• Full time onsite role and open to work in Bangalore/ Hyderabad/ Kochi or Mandi Dabwali and San Fransico if required.
• Hands-on experience with autonomy components such as perception, SLAM/localization, motion planning, and feedback control for mobile robots.
• Familiarity with outdoor sensing and hardware integration, including cameras, LiDAR, GPS/RTK, IMUs, and embedded compute platforms.
• Proficiency in algorithm development, data analysis, and simulation tools (e.g., Gazebo, MuJoCo, Isaac, MATLAB, or similar) to prototype and validate autonomy features.
• Ability to perform field testing, debug issues on-site, and work comfortably around machinery and outdoor environments.
• Bachelor’s/ Master or PhD degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills, with a track record of working in cross-functional engineering teams.
• Experience with off-road, or other challenging outdoor robotics applications is a plus; interest in sustainable agriculture and farmer-focused products is highly valued.
