The Independent Education Union Victoria Tasmania is seeking a Victorian-based Organiser for an ongoing position. The position is for an immediate start.
The focus of this position is to organise in Catholic and independent schools, effectively recruiting; working with members, reps and sub-branches to build collective strength; and bargaining in independent schools.
Our members work as teachers and in a variety of other roles, in Catholic and independent schools, but also across other private education and training providers.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA – ESSENTIAL
Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and a history of activism.
Very strong written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships and work as part of a team.
The capacity to deal sensitively with members and manage interactions with employers.
The ability to handle pressure including meeting deadlines and balancing competing work demands.
Strong problem-solving, negotiation and analytical skills.
Capacity to obtain a Right of Entry Permit.
A current Victorian driver’s licence.
FAVOURABLY VIEWED:
Experience working in non-government education.
Negotiating workplace agreements.
Experience working for a union or advocacy organisation.
The IEU Victoria Tasmania provides a collegial and supportive working environment with a comprehensive package of wages and conditions in accordance with the IEU Staff Agreement. IEU officers are expected to perform some out of hours work.
