Our client is a busy Tauranga based shipping agency which handles all the operational, administrative, and legal requirements for a vessel's visit, ensuring quick turnarounds and managing everything from cargo loading and customs to crew changes. The Opportunity:
The company is seeking a skilled Operations Manager who will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of transport, shipping, and logistics operations within the ship’s agency. The role involves overseeing all operational aspects of vessel servicing, freight coordination, regulatory compliance, and business performance to ensure efficient and profitable service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organise, direct and control the organisation’s shipping and transport operations, including vessel servicing and cargo-related activities
Coordinate vessel arrivals, port operations, and departure processes, ensuring all logistical requirements are met efficiently
Oversee the preparation, processing, and distribution of shipping, customs, and regulatory documentation
Monitor operational workflows to ensure timely and accurate service deliver
Manage the day-to-day operations of the transport/shipping business in its entirety
Develop and implement operational systems, workflows, and documentation controls to improve efficiency
Oversee invoicing processes and financial coordination in conjunction with accounting functions
Analyse operational data and implement improvements to enhance performance, productivity, and profitability
Direct and supervise staff involved in transport, administration, and operational functions
Allocate resources and ensure effective workforce planning to meet operational requirement
Provide leadership, training, and performance guidance to staff
Foster a workplace culture focused on accountability, efficiency, and collaboration
Assist in identifying and developing new transport and freight business opportunities, including freight forwarding initiatives
Support the development of systems and processes for freight forwarding and logistics services
Contribute to marketing and client acquisition strategies, including digital and social media initiatives
Key Skills & Experience
3 + years of demonstrated experience in transport, shipping, logistics, or freight operations management
Strong knowledge of operations management, freight systems, and shipping documentation processes
Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel and operational systems development
Proven ability to manage staff, coordinate stakeholders, and oversee complex operations
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
Strong commitment to health, safety, and regulatory compliance
Hour and Location
Permanent full time with guaranteed 30 hours each week. Role is worked Monday to Friday- 30 hours per week.
Place of Work: Tauranga
Pay and Benefits
Base pay: NZ$48 per hour
